Dominican Champions

Dominican Win Brings Series to End
The winning pitcher was Francisco Quinones, who was born in Santo Domingo, DominicanRepublic, threw 87 pitches over 7 innings, while allowing no runs.

Quinones called the win "a team effort."

Silveran Kanan Bonis took a no-hitter into the 6th and left with 2 outs after allowing a single. Tonka relieved him and got the final out. Tonka ran into trouble in the 8th. With 2 out and runners on second and third, Roberto Gomez doubled both home. Alex Duranfollowed with an RBI single. Bernardo Pinedaadded a 9th inning insurance run with a homer. Gabriel Parita pitched 2 innings, allowing no runs, for the save.

In a tournament filled with mythical creatures from the worlds of science fiction and fantasy, the Dominican Republic featured perhaps the most mythical creature of all, a fully healthy Ricardo Rosario. The Knight's shortstop, who has been limited to only 99 games (only 47 in the field) over the last 3 years, hit .348 with 5 RBI in the tournament. While hitless in the final game, he made several outstanding plays on defense.

Perhaps the biggest news is that manager Bill The Cat has successfully avoided prosectution for drug offenses by winning the championship. He will celebrate with a massive party in Santo Domingo.
