Superior League update

Baltimore holds a 19.5 game lead in the East, with a vintage Ute-like 74-32 record. Joe Young is hitting .324-32-88, and W. Gehrig Bear is hitting .353-23-96. Storm Morris leads the league with a 14-3 record.

Rumors

Kenny was just talking with the Kid in Hawaii and the Kid indicated that Coyote was shopping for a big bat. Hawaii obviously has the young talent to make a deal and word is they are even willing to offer next year's 1st rounder. Stay tuned...

There are some who call me...Tim

Tim Sullivan enchanted the Louisville Sluggers in his debut. He was somewhat wild, but got out of jams by blowing the Sluggers away. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 8, reaching 105 pitches through 5 before turning it over to the bullpen. Miami won 6-1. Brian Kaat stole 3 bases to give him a league leading 47.

Vercetti makes strong debut

Tom Vercetti pitched 7 shutout innings for the win in his first start for Miami. The 24 year old lefthander allowed 6 hits, walking 4 and striking out 6.

Damon Nkik injured his shoulder in a home plate collision and was placed on the 15 day disabled list, and David Lefevre joined him there with shoulder discomfort. To replace Lefevre, Miami will promote top prospect Tim Sullivan, a 5'9 pitcher with a 98 MPH fastball. He was the second overall pick in last year's draft.

Baltimore improved to 62-26 over the weekend. On Friday Joe Young hit a pair of homers, giving him 30 for the season. After a rare loss on Saturday, they came back with a 10-1 win over Mars on Sunday. Mars pitched around both Young and W Gehrig Bear, and got burned. They scored 3 runs each as Kobe Jones hit a pair of homers and drove in 5.

Las Vegas has won 7 in a row to take a 5.5 game lead over Mars. On Friday they were down 3-0 in the 9th against Jake Decker, but homers by Alvaro Samuel and Monty Harman tied the game, and they won 6-3 in 10 innings. Utah has fallen 9.5 back. Utah is 3-9 since Lou Zamuda went on the disabled list.

Are the Stars Contenders?

The Stars traded a pair of good prospects in an attempt to upgradde* the 2008 team. That and to add a jawa in Vince Lewis. Playing against Baltimore, the answer to the title question appears to be no.

Baltimore scored 3 in the first, 4 in the 2nd, and 9 in the third. They won 21-0. Andy Roughton (3-10) pitched only one inning. Trent Weaver had 5 hits and 5 rbi. Every Baltimore player had at least 2 runs or 2 rbi. Joe Young (28) and W Gehrig Bear (20) each went deep. Enrique Aguayo went the distance with a 3 hitter.

After the game Miami sent Roughton to the minors and called up lefthander Tom Vercetti, a great kid and a local product from Vice City. He'll make his debut on Sunday against the Sluggers.
