Muttonly on thin ice

LA Shockers have been discussing the future of Don Muttonly even after his team pulled off a comeback win against Portland yesterday. The Shockers took a 2-1 lead on Michael Molina’s homer in the bottom 8th. The homer came immediately after pitcher Mike Carpenter was allowed to bat in a tie game, despite exhausting himself through 8 innings.  The decision looked even worse after the homer as Muttonly replaced Carpenter with his closer.  The Decepticons scored twice to take the lead, but LA got 2 in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Muttonly has had several controversies over not pinch hitting for a pitcher when the situation clearly calls for it.

Earlier in the season Muttonly refused to play 1B Andy Moore, despite Moore coming off a 58 HR season in Mars.  Moore was later traded to Toledo, with LA paying most of the contract, and is batting .320 there with a slugging percentage over .600.

Muttonly has several years left on a contract that makes him one of the highest paid managers in the game, but a change appears likely as the Shockers remain in last place.
