Superior League Season Over

In the end, there were no pennant race surprises. The teams who have led for most of the season put the races away at the end. In the first round of the playoffs Miami will face Charlotte and New York will face Texas.

Standings

Tom Groovine finished his season with a complete game, 5 hit shutout despite striking out nobody. Though Groovine can no longer even throw 80 MPH with any regularity, he still finished the season 16-11, which leaves him only 7 wins short of 300 heading into 2012.

Mighty Joe Young wins the batting title with a career best .365 mark as he leads Miami to their first ever season of 100 wins. Joe also led in slugging percentage (.657), finished second in OBP (.456), and hit 35 homeruns.

Frank Lewis (352/490/598) finished first in OBP and second in batting. Mark Crawford hit .323 with 39 homeruns and led the league with 137 RBI and 136 runs scored. He also stole 37 bases.

Sam Robinson led with 47 homeruns, followed by Adama Dunn with 41. Kermit Crawford stole 71 bases, followed by Miami Stars Brian Kaat and Jim Concepcion (63). Jacen Solo had an impressive bounceback season at age 38, hitting .339 with 19 homers, 101 runs scored, and 49 steals.

Paul Finch led the league in wins (20-8) and ERA (3.15), while finishing second in strikeouts (254). Joe Callahan led in innings (246), strikeouts (267), and completed 9 games. Joe Dirte saved 43 games. Damon Hutchinson led relievers with a 1.98 ERA, with a 5-0 record, 25 holds, and 5 saves.

Head

Miami was down 3-1 in the 9th inning vs Baltimore. They got two runners on with one out, and had the bottom of the order coming up, weak hitters Prince Ferreira and Jim Concepcion. Since the September roster expansion, Miami had a good supply of pinch hitters. Wayne Keller was first up, and grounded out. Next, Miami went to Richie Head. He was a combined 5 for 31 with no homers over parts of the last 3 seasons. Standing in against Colts closer Craig Haren, Head put a big swing on a high fastball, and hit a mammoth homerun to right for a 4-3 win.
