Game 1

Division Series Game 1 Victory for Moody and Boston

The Boston Beaneaters powered past the visiting Utah Utes, 3-1, in the opener of the Division Series at Fenway Park today. Boston starting pitcher Larry Moody threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Beaneaters now lead the series 1-0.

Bernardo Pineda aided the Boston cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder went 3 for 4 with 3 singles.

"Larry was throwing strikes, locating well," said Boston manager Mario Pujols.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Fenway Park in Boston.

Game 2

Boston Tops Utah Again, 6-4

The Boston Beaneaters moved to within one game of the League Series today, downing the visiting Utah Utes at Fenway Park by a score of 6-4. Beaneaters right-hander Jeremy Byers had a strong outing in which he threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Beaneaters a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Tom Chaisson, who finished 5th in the MC in on-base percentage with .370 in 2022, aided the Boston cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the catcher was 1 for 4 with a walk.

"There's nothing like the postseason," said Byers, "to ramp up the pressure."

The next game is set to be played for Monday, October 14th , 2024 at Popcorn Dome in Salt Lake City.

Game 3

Utah Breaks Through for First Win in Division Series; Now Trails 2-1

The Utah Utes have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Boston Beaneaters, winning 4-1 at Popcorn Dome today. Utes left-hander Fernando Hernandez Jr. threw 5.1 innings allowing 1 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Utes to 2-1 in the best-of-5 Division Series.

In the 6th inning, with one out and the bases loaded and Boston leading 1-0, Utah brought on closer Carlos Cordero. He stranded the 3 runners and pitched scoreless ball in the 7th and 8th innings, allowing his team to come back and earn the win.

In the bottom of the seventh, Utah right fielder Ben Jones hit a run-scoring double to center field. The clutch hit made it, 2-1, Utes.

"I really like what we did out there today," Jones said after the game.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Popcorn Dome in Salt Lake City.

Game 4

Utes Clip Beaneaters 3-2 in R2 Contest

In a crucial game, the Utah Utes put on their best show, beating the Boston Beaneaters by a final score of 3-2 today. Cristobal Gonzalez threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Utah and Boston are now tied at 2 wins apiece in the best-of-5 affair.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Connor Smallwood led off the inning with a triple. One out later, Utah pinch hitter Gilberto Castaneda, facing Mark Hunter, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Utes the 3-2 win.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Boston skipper Mario Pujols, "and it cost us."

Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday at Fenway Park in Boston.

Game 5

Beaneaters Prevail, as Division Series Goes to the Wire

Major Superior League fans were certainly not disappointed with this Superior Conference Division Series.

The two teams were evenly matched and the series went to the final game, with the Boston Beaneaters prevailing over the Utah Utes to advance to the League Series.

Boston won the final game by a score of 3-2 at Fenway Park and that sealed the series 3-2.

"Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said left fielder Ramon Pimentel, who earned MVP honors.

For the series, Pimentel hit .375 with a .524 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 4 RBI and scored 4 runs.

The Boston Beaneaters will play against the Las Vegas Gamblers in the next round. Las Vegas won their series against the Toledo Mud Hens 3 games to 0. The League Series schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes.
