Wild Card Series: Hollywood vs Philadelphia
Game 1
B's Edge Grays 5-4 to Open R1
The Hollywood B's faced a tough opponent in Philadelphia Grays pitcher Tom Weaver, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Wildcard Series, which they now lead 1-0. The B's won 5-4 at Ballpark of Philadelphia, despite the Grays getting a strong start from right-hander Weaver, who went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs.
Hollywood used a clutch hit from Will Daugherty to get the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the B's ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Daugherty.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Bee Hive in Los Angeles.
Game 2
B's Win Wildcard Series
The Hollywood B's have swept the Philadelphia Grays and are on to the Division Series. Hollywood won 11-3 today at Bee Hive to clinch the Wildcard Series.
"We're happy to have put the dagger in when we had the chance," said Hollywood right fielder Cesar Corona, who was named MVP for the series. "It could have been a tough series to finish if we let them start winning."
Corona won the award with a .429 batting average and a .556 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The Hollywood B's will play against the Denver Rabbits in the next round. Denver had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
