Wild Card Series: Toledo vs Cleveland
Game 1
Lambert Blasts Spiders, Mud Hens Take Game 1, 6-3
With catcher Paul Lambert leading the charge, the Toledo Mud Hens got a road win over the Cleveland Spiders, 6-3, in Game 1 of the Wildcard Series today. Lambert was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once at Cleveland Grounds to help Toledo take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.
The Mud Hens took a 6-2 lead in the top of the third inning. Facing Cleveland hurler Tim Goff with two outs, Lambert hit a 2-run double.
Lambert attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Toledo Ballpark in Toledo.
Game 2
Mud Hens Heading to Division Series
It was a sweet sweep for the Toledo Mud Hens as they eased past the Cleveland Spiders to advance to the Division Series.
Toledo won the final game by a 3-1 count and the series 2-0.
"We're just fortunate to get through it quickly and be able to rest up for the next series," said Paul Lambert, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Lambert hit .857 with a .750 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Toledo Mud Hens will play against the Las Vegas Gamblers in the next round. Las Vegas had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
