Game 1
Wildcard Series Game 1 Victory for Sasaki and Hawaii
The Hawaii Hounddogs powered past the visiting New York Cobra, 4-2, in the opener of the Wildcard Series at Graceland Park today. Hawaii starting pitcher Loki Sasaki threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs, to lead the charge. The Hounddogs now lead the series 1-0.
Juan Carlos Baez had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Hawaii. He came through with a 2-run home run to put Hawaii in front, 4-1.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Baez said after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cobra Stadium in New York.
Game 2
Hounddogs Move on to Division Series
The Hawaii Hounddogs outclassed the New York Cobra in all facets of the game throughout the MC Wildcard Series.
The end result was a Hawaii series sweep to advance to the Division Series, capped off by a 8-6 win in the final game.
"We're a bit surprised it's over in a sweep, to be honest with you," said third baseman Juan Carlos Baez, who hit .286 in the series.
Baez's standout effort garnered him MVP honors. He also put up a .250 on-base percentage and had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Hawaii Hounddogs will play against the Bay Area Bandits in the next round. Bay Area had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
