Tom Groovine, 300 Game winner

Tom Groovine finally picked up his 7th win of the season, and the 300th of his career in Miami.  The Utes gave Groovine a 4 run lead in the first inning.  He gave back two in the bottom 1st on a Joe Young homer (#29), but the Utes stretched the lead to 6-2 in the 2nd and 7-2 in the 4th.

Groovine's biggest challenge at that point was to pitch through the 5th inning and qualify for the win.  He had some tough challenges, as he allowed 12 hits and 3 walks, but was able to get through 5 2/3 innings with 5 runs allowed before yielding to Scott Klippenstein.  Utah went on to win 9-5.

It wasn't the most impressive start, and it hasn't been the most impressive season for 43 year old Tom (7-8, 5.77 ERA) but he has persevered to become the 4th pitcher in league history to win 300 games.

Most wins, career:
421 Roger Chillingworth
331 Jo-Jo Lewis
309 Sunsurf
300 Tom Groovine
