Voltron traded north of the border

The Toronto Seagulls have acquired Carlos Voltron from the Cleveland Spiders in the first trade of the 2015 season.  Toronto will also receive relief pitcher Kenny Brown in exchange for pitchers David Reidling and Antonio Rodriguez, and outfielder Ramon Gonzalez.  Reidling was pitching in AAA and had 107 strikeouts in 99 innings.  Rated the league's #44 prospect, he throws a low 90s fastball with potentially above average pitches in his slider and change.  Martinez and Gonzalez were both playing in single A Dunedin.

Voltron, a free agent after the season, never fulfilled the promise of 5 tools combined into one robotic frame.  His offense was held back by contact problems, as he struck out as many as 199 times in 2014.  Voltron was only hitting .223 with 5 homers in Cleveland, Toronto will hope a change of scenery helps his offense, but realistically expects improved outfield defense.
